What is Psychological Counselling?
According to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy “counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress they may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss of a sense of direction and purpose”.
Is Counselling for Me?
The counselling relationship can offer a unique opportunity to explore aspects of your life, which may be difficult to talk about to friends or family. There may be a specific issue or issues that are causing you distress or more generalised feelings of anxiety or other strong feelings, which are difficult to pin down.
Your counsellor will not be able to solve your problems or provide specific directions, however by listening carefully and patiently he may be able to help you see things more clearly, perhaps from a more helpful perspective, which allows you to initiate positive changes to your life.
About Your Counsellor
William is an experienced counsellor, with a particular interest in occupational issues, e.g. workplace bullying. He employs a cognitive behavioural (CBT) approach to working with clients. This involves exploring how clients think about themselves, the world and other people and makes the assumption that thoughts, feelings and behaviours are closely interconnected. Unlike some other approaches CBT focuses on the “here and now” problems and difficulties. Rather than dwelling on events from the past, it looks for ways of improving your state of mind now.
William has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Masters Degrees in Counselling Psychology and Occupational Psychology.
